How to enter your radio unlock code
Entering the code is easy once you know the steps — and how to avoid locking the radio out.
Once you have your unlock code, entering it usually takes under a minute. The exact buttons vary by radio, but the process is similar across most vehicles.
The general steps
- Turn the ignition on so the radio powers up (it may show CODE, LOC, or 0000).
- Use the preset buttons (1–6) or the tuning/seek controls to enter each digit of your code.
- Confirm with the SEEK, AM/FM, or ENTER button as directed.
- The radio unlocks and returns to normal.
GM & Saturn "TheftLock"
With the ignition on, use the HR and MN (hour/minute) buttons to enter your code, then confirm.
Avoiding a lockout
- Enter the full code carefully — many radios give you only a few attempts.
- If you make a mistake mid-entry, finish the sequence rather than restarting, then enter the correct code.
- If the radio shows INOP or "wait," leave the ignition on for about one hour to reset before trying again.
