How to enter your Hyundai radio code

Why is my Hyundai radio asking for a code?

Your car's audio system disables itself if it is disconnected from electrical power for any reason. To make it work again you must enter a specific code on the preset buttons.

There are hundreds of possible combinations from five digits, so guessing it is effectively impossible — which is exactly the point.

You will meet it after any of these:

• The battery went flat, or was disconnected for work on the car
• The battery was replaced
• The radio fuse blew
• The car sat long enough for the battery to drain
• You bought the car and the previous owner never passed the code on

How do I enter the code on a Hyundai radio?

When the system next comes on you will see COdE in the frequency display.

Use the preset buttons — the ones you store your favourite stations on — to enter the five-digit code. Entered correctly, the radio starts playing.

Clearing a wrong entry — the BAND button

If the wrong code is entered after the COdE prompt, it stays on the display and the radio will not operate.

To clear it: with the radio turned on, press and hold the BAND button for about three seconds until the incorrect entry clears. Then you can try again.

Before you disconnect the battery

If you have battery or electrical work coming up, find your code first. Far easier to have it in hand than to discover the radio is locked when the car comes back.
