How to enter your Jaguar radio code

Why is my Jaguar radio asking for a code?

The factory head unit locks itself when it loses power, so a stolen radio is no use in another car. It cannot tell a thief from a flat battery.

You will meet it after any of these:

• The battery went flat, or was disconnected for work on the car
• The battery was replaced
• The radio fuse blew
• The car sat long enough for the battery to drain
• You bought the car and the previous owner never passed the code on

How do I enter the code on a Jaguar radio?

1. Turn the car's ignition on, then turn the radio on until the word code is displayed on the faceplate.
2. Enter the code using your preset buttons — the ones you store stations on — pressing each one firmly.
3. If the code is right, the radio beeps after the last digit and starts playing on the last station selected.

If it will not accept the code — the one-hour fix

If the radio has been locked for a long period, or power has been off for an extended time, it can refuse a correct code.

Leave the radio powered on with "code" displaying for at least one hour, then enter the code again. It usually accepts after that.

And a word worth saying plainly: it is not possible to guess a Jaguar radio code by trying combinations. The number of possibilities makes it hopeless, and failed attempts only add to the wait.

Before you disconnect the battery

If you have battery or electrical work coming up, find your code first. Far easier to have it in hand than to discover the radio is locked when the car comes back.
