The audio security system activates immediately whenever the system is disconnected from the battery. Once active, the security code is the only way back.

Once you have your unlock code, press the appropriate sequence of buttons using the preset radio station buttons. The radio should operate normally at that point.
If the radio does not power up, enter the code again and then press the BAND button for 3 to 5 seconds. That final press is what commits the code on a lot of these units, and it is the step most people never get told about.
Attempt an incorrect code more than three times and the radio goes into lock mode and disables itself.
To recover it, leave the radio on for one hour so it can reset itself and accept the code again. Alternatively, hold the bAND button down for five seconds to clear.
