How to enter your Suzuki radio code

Why is my Suzuki radio asking for a code?

The audio security system activates immediately whenever the system is disconnected from the battery. Once it is active you must enter the four-digit security code before the radio will work.

You will meet it after any of these:

• The battery went flat, or was disconnected for work on the car
• The battery was replaced
• The radio fuse blew
• The car sat long enough for the battery to drain
• You bought the car and the previous owner never passed the code on

How do I enter the code on a Suzuki radio?

1. Turn the ignition key to ACC or ON and press the power/volume knob to wake the audio system.
2. F or COdE flashes on the display. If you see AF, do step 3 first. If you see CodE, skip to step 4.
3. Enter your Area Frequency (AF) code on the presets. If your AF code is 2, press preset button 2. COdE then flashes.
4. Enter your four-digit security code on the presets, one button per digit.

You can watch it fill in as you go. If your code were 1234: press preset 1 and the display shows 1---, press preset 2 and it shows 12--, and so on until all four digits are in.

What the AF prompt is

AF stands for Area Frequency. It is a single-digit setting that comes before your security code on these units, and it is the step people miss — they try to key the security code straight in while the radio is still waiting for the AF digit.

If AF is showing, deal with it first. COdE will then flash and the unit is ready for the real code.

Before you disconnect the battery

If you have battery or electrical work coming up, find your code first. Far easier to have it in hand than to discover the radio is locked when the car comes back.
