Radio code vs. navigation code

On some vehicles the stereo and the navigation unit each have their own unlock code. Here's how they differ.

Most vehicles have a single factory radio unlock code. But on some — particularly Honda and Acura models with built-in navigation — the audio system and the navigation system can each require their own separate code.

The radio (audio) code

This unlocks the stereo itself — AM/FM, media, and audio functions. It's the code most people need after a battery disconnect. It's generated from the radio's serial number.

The navigation code

On vehicles with a factory nav system, the navigation unit may lock separately and ask for its own anti-theft code. If your screen prompts for a navigation or "Nav" code, that's a different code from the audio one.

Which do you need?

On our brand order pages that support it (such as Honda), you can choose Radio code or Navigation code right on the form. Not sure? Contact us and we'll point you the right way.
