Your Toyota or Scion stereo is showing ERC. On these units that stands for "Enter Radio Code" — the anti-theft lock is asking for its factory unlock code.
ERC turns up mainly on older Toyota and Scion factory decks — commonly JBL and Panasonic-built units from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s. It is the same anti-theft lock used across Toyota's range, just a different on-screen prompt to SEC or LOC, which show on other Toyota units instead. ERC appears after the radio loses power, most often from a flat or disconnected battery, a jump start, or a blown fuse — not from anything wrong with the unit itself.
Toyota units count failed attempts and can show extra warnings such as HELP after too many wrong tries, extending the lockout. Having the correct code ready before entering anything avoids that.
For ERC units we generally need your vehicle's VIN and the radio's model number rather than a separate serial — we'll tell you exactly which once you get in touch, and the code is retrieved without removing the unit from the dash.
