Your Jaguar's stereo is asking for a code and refuses to play. Here is the good news: on a Jaguar the radio never has to leave the dash — your code is issued from the VIN. This page explains the whole process.
Every factory stereo that leaves the line in a Jaguar carries an anti-theft lock. The moment the unit loses electrical power it assumes it might have been removed from the car, and it will not make a sound again until a security code proves otherwise. The radio is not broken, and you have not done anything wrong — the lock is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
The everyday triggers we see on Jaguars:
Switch the ignition on, turn the radio on, and a locked Jaguar unit shows the word code on the faceplate. It will not play until the right security code goes in. If the car has been sitting for a long time, the unit can even refuse a correct code at first — there is a simple fix for that, and it is covered below.
On many makes, getting a code starts with pulling the stereo out of the dash to read a serial number off its casing. Not on a Jaguar. For X-Type, S-Type, XJ, XK and XF-era cars the security code for the factory-fitted unit is tied to the car's VIN — the seventeen-character vehicle identification number the car has carried since the day it was built.

If the radio has been locked for a long time, or the power has been off for an extended period, a Jaguar unit can refuse even the correct code. The fix is simple: leave the radio powered on with code showing for at least one hour, then enter the code again. It usually accepts after that.
