Entered the wrong code a few times and now your radio shows WAIT, LOCKED, ERR or a countdown number? That's the radio's anti-theft lockout. It's a safety feature, not a broken radio — and it clears. Here's what's happening and how to fix it the right way.
Most factory radios allow only a few code attempts (often three) before they pause and make you wait. Each wrong batch of guesses can make the wait longer — some radios jump to a 60-minute wait, and a few will simply display "LOCKED" until the correct code is entered. It's designed to stop a thief from guessing the code.
Stop entering guesses — every wrong attempt can extend the wait. If you see a countdown or "WAIT", turn the ignition to the ON / accessory position, leave the radio powered on, and let the timer run all the way down without pressing anything. When it clears you'll get another chance to enter the code.
